It's that time of year again - Property Taxes - How to verify that your taxes have been paid?
For some reason this year, we have had more questions regarding property taxes and how to verify that the lender has paid them than we have had in the past. The question has been, "I am escrowing for my taxes, how do I check to see that the tax bill is being paid?". We thought it might be helpful to send out information to you regarding this topic.
Taxes in Colorado are paid in arrears. The 2009 property tax bills are paid by lenders, half in February, half in June. The February payments will be made in the next few weeks. In order to check and see that your taxes have been credited, you may access the treasurer's website in your county. We would suggest checking in March for the February payment made by your lender out of your escrow account.
